white delights

We finally have snow here in Oxford, everything is looking beautifully white and bright today. On my walk to work yesterday, I passed people on skis and sledges in the street making the most of the snowy weather.
I hope everyone has been getting ready for Christmas. I've been finishing off a few handmade presents and decorating our living room with gold bunting and other treats.

Hmmm... who shall I give this little purse to...?

winter inspiration

Thanks to everyone who made it to the Christmas Show last weekend.
I had great fun setting up my stall with my vintage treasures, which helped to show off my bags, purses and corsages.
I'm taking a bit of time to find inspiration before I start on any new designs.
I love this part of my work as my ideas can come from a variety of objects and places.
like the worn colours of this china doll, which belonged to my great aunt Lilly...

... looking through textile articles and clippings I've saved ...

.....the swirling, twisting pattern of winter branches...

...or the design on a vintage tea set.....

cream & gold

This time of year, white, cream, bronze and gold seem to match perfectly together. I've been inspired by winters cold snap and it's subtle colours.

My mum gave me this vintage bag and I found the little bronze butterfly brooch in a charity shop.

I love the colour of handmade vintage lace, neither white or cream just beautifully faded and worn. I've carefully stitched on mother of pearl buttons and beads.
